Closing Ad from “Yes for Rent Stabilization” Coalition Skewers Corporate Landlords, Gets Tens of Thousands of Views on First Day

MINNEAPOLIS – The Home to Stay coalition, which brings together faith, labor and community groups who represent tens of thousands of Minneapolis renters, homeowners, landlords, released their final campaign ad Monday. The ad, which you can see HERE, got tens of thousands of organic views in the first 24 hours it went live.

The ad features local Brave New Workshop comedian Ryan Nelson, who plays a cartoonish version of the corporate landlords that are bankrolling the campaign to maintain a status quo that puts profits before people.

Home to Stay coalition campaign manager Claire Bergren shared why this ad seemed to resonate so strongly with viewers:

“While taking a funny approach to the greedy corporate landlords who are bankrolling the opposition campaign, it is clear that the issues that lie underneath this ad hit home to tens of thousands of Minneapolis voters. Corporate landlords who don’t live in our city (or state) are trying to distract and divide us, but most voters understand that voting Yes on Question 3 means making our community one that ensures every person – no matter what we look like, how much money we have or what part of the city we live in – have a stable, safe place to call home.

“In a city where over half the residents rent, a small few are getting richer and richer while pushing families out of their homes and communities. There is nothing funny about that. We’re excited that this ad is getting so much attention and are looking forward to winning this vote so the city can begin the serious work of passing a strong rent stabilization policy that makes sure all of our families – no exceptions – have a safe and stable place to live.”
